LITTLE HOUSE ON THE LAKE is a 128-page, 12" x 12", 4-color, hard cover book documenting the remaining cottages on Madison, Wisconsin's Lake Mendota during the summers of 2010 and 2011.
There is a natural desire to build larger modern homes, and that has led to the steady and rapid removal of the lake cottages that once contributed so greatly to Lake Mendota’s accessible charm and character. This photographic document was created to collectively record these structures for a better understanding of a sense-of-place, nostalgia and preservation for Madisonians, current and future, and stand as a testament to Madison's humble beginnings on Lake Mendota. More than half of these cottages have been demolished.
Introduction by Architectural Historian Anne Biebel, with contributions from Don Sanford, author of On Fourth Lake, A Social History of Lake Mendota.

From 2001 to 2007, I was fortunate enough to work with one of the most dynamic and hard working bands of that time. VAUX was a band’s band, admired by most, copied by some and constantly pushing the boundaries of alternative rock. They were always open to photographic experimentation and pushed me to be a better, faster photographer during their blistering live shows where they insisted on using four pulsating stage-based, homemade light kits. It was nuts.
Just a bunch of great dudes, givin’ it everything they had and making incredible music along the way. And I got to go along for the ride. Amazing. Thanks fellas.
2003 - The EUROPIUM series is my modern take on the forgotten artistry and sensibilities of the Art Nouveau epoch. The allegorical works feature dreamy femme fatales united with Nouveau elements appropriated from the turn of the century. They have an overall modern Pop aesthetic, but at the same time carry a mysticism, naturalism and sensuality that is rarely seen or felt in our mass-produced, disposable world.
Each image is named after the European cities that defined Art Nouveau in their own unique ways, and then exported that variation to the world. Prague, Brussels, Vienna, Paris, Glasgow, Munich and Budapest.
These over-sized 5 x 4 foot portraits were created using an analog photographic process that consists of shooting models and individual elements, then layering and aligning the film and rephotographing them to create the final image. I use this approach because of the way that the light travels and refracts through the materials, achieving a visual effect that cannot be duplicated using any other process. It's meticulous and labor intensive, but the result is an achievement within the medium that is rare.
2005 - VALLARI is, in technique, a continuation of the EUROPIUM series where I used an analog photographic process that consisted of shooting models and individual elements, then layering and aligning the film, and rephotographing them to create the final image. But in subject matter the theme of this series is, Muses for the Modern Arts, where the classical Grecian Muses do not directly translate.
The series title Vallari is a Hindi name which means Goddess, but more specifically refers to the Goddess Parvati. She takes on two very powerful forms, one is the Goddess Beyond Reach, and the other is the Goddess of Destruction. These are the ways of the artist, for it is the artists that are constantly striving for something beyond themselves and beyond their reach, which often results in some degree of emotional, physical and financial destruction.
2008 - STREET FIGHT
2008 - PLAY TIME IS OVER - This series was created at the end of the horror show that was the Bush / Cheney presidency, when I was completely fed up with our country’s ambivalence to our environment, human rights, human dignity and compassion. We were selfishly living as if we were the only people on a planet with unlimited resources. It seemed that our country had lost its soul, and its way. Play time was over. It was time to grow up. Time to start thinking of others and take notice of our global impact and the harm that we were causing.
The Obama era was soon to be ushered in with all its promise and hope. And for a short time, as we heaved our way out of the Great Recession, that hope was becoming actualized. Then everyone forgot to keep voting and The House fell back into the hands of the corporations and military industrial complex, ensuring that the status quo would be maintained. Sadly, this series is just as relevant today as it was the day I finished it.
