Little House on the Lake is a book that documents the remaining cottages on Madison, Wisconsin's Lake Mendota during the summers of 2010 and 2011. There is a natural desire to build larger, modern homes, and that has led to the steady and rapid removal of the lake cottages that once contributed so greatly to Lake Mendota's accessible charm and character. This photographic record stands as a testament to Madison's humble beginnings on the lake. It collectively records these structures for a better understanding of a sense-of-place, and to preserve what we've lost for Madisonians, current and future. Almost half of these cottages have been demolished.
Introduction by Architectural Historian Anne Biebel, with contributions from Don Sanford, author of On Fourth Lake, A Social History of Lake Mendota.
