Photo by Nick BerardI am a native Madisonian and a proud alum of Hoyt elementary school. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and the Colorado Institute of Art.
I have pushed myself to create bodies of work that are both rich in concept and visual execution. Although my aesthetic is contemporary, I view my practice as traditional and forgo digital options for time-honored film-based work where all effects are achieved in camera. My earlier work employs a labor intensive film-layering process that achieves high-contrast and high saturation, and results in more painterly images.
My work has been featured in Graphis and PDN's photography annuals. I've exhibited in New York, San Francisco and Denver, where I am represented by + gallery, one of the local leaders in progressive contemporary art. Prior to joining forces with + gallery I was a founding member of the Kung Fu Kitchen Artist Collective and Gallery, a DIY operation that helped instigate the move of arts from the LoDo district of Denver to the RiNo district. I currently live outside of Madison, with my family, my film, my Hasselblad and my Great Dane, Pablo.
Thank you for your interest in my work.
